Goodbye to Oz is a series of twenty-five handmade sculpture books with the titular poem inscribed. The poem was written in 2008 at a particular point in time when personal transformation was required. I chose a metaphor that is a universal one, for all of us who need a metaphysical break from trying circumstances. The idea for the books gestated for several years and were then created in 2016.
The books are made of soft canvas with leather handles. They can be displayed standing, fanned-out, on a flat surface which will have the desired effect of seeing the spectrum of colors. And can also be hung from the handle which will have the same effect.
Each book is individually handmade which lends itself to a natural variation.
7” x 8” x 3” canvas, leather, acrylic, cord, misc.
